The characteristic stylistic representation of the artist Marija Tošković are horizontal forms, determined by semi-abstract relief components. Its aesthetic contemplation, intellectually measured and refined, is reduced to visual schemes of wide representations of tensed shapes. In its sedimentarity, monolithicity, firmness and dramatic connectedness, her forms visually approach an imaginary and astral landscape. By replacing the external representation of the visual surface of the world, the artist left an open space for a multitude of meanings. The speech of her image is multi-layered in meaning, the polysemy of reading her artistic panoramas is unlimited, and the door opens before us for many mental associations and analogies. The symmetry which the artist establishes between natural forms and her inner psychological phenomena has imposed itself with its obviousness. In her works, landscape is not geographically determined, and the artist, with the power of her aesthetic contemplation, managed to transform her artistic field into a spiritual domain, that is, into a kind of mental landscape. In her research, Marija is interested in the secrets hidden by water, earth, stone, rock, but through her works she primarily shows deep personal structuredness and rootedness in different regions of her origin, Montenegro, Serbia and Portugal. The fate of these works unwinds through different temporal and spatial planes, and each layer of her work is affected by intimate processes of personal experience. Observing her works, before our eyes she performs a deep decomposition and an intimate inner metamorphosis of an artist trying to establish contact with personal ground.
